DEC-LLC exists because the infrastructure industry has been moving in the wrong direction — toward subscription lock-in, vendor dependency, and products that stop working the day the vendor has a bad year. We build for engineers who own their own infrastructure and want to keep it that way.
DEC-LLC was founded in 2010 in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The founding thesis was simple: enterprise infrastructure was becoming less ownable, less auditable, and less portable, not more. Every year, more of a customer's operational knowledge lived inside a vendor's cloud dashboard instead of on the customer's own floor. Every year, switching costs went up. Every year, the vendor's incentives drifted further from the customer's.
DEC-LLC builds the other direction: appliances that run on the customer's own hardware, in the customer's own rack or cloud account, under the customer's own authority. Multi-vendor by default, so no single vendor's business decisions dictate the customer's future. Open-source at the core, so the architecture is auditable and the future is defensible.
The first four core products — DEC OpenUTM, DEC IVMIA, DEC NIVMIA, and DEC VaultSync — were built in response to a recurring pattern that showed up in every infrastructure environment we worked in: critical institutional knowledge was bottlenecked on one or two senior engineers, and every vendor made it harder for anyone else on the team to take over. We build products that turn that institutional knowledge into something the whole team can query, reason about, and extend.
